Is the Xbox One X a PS4 Killer?

The Xbox One X is a more powerful console, but what does that mean?

Xbox One X Price Point

Another concern I have is the $499 USD ($599 CDN) price tag on the Xbox One X. For reference, the PS4 Pro is currently selling for $399 USD ($499 CDN), and although the technical specs fall short of the Xbox One X, it is 4K compatible. If I’m headed into the 2017 holiday season looking for a new console, it’s hard for me to justify the Xbox One X over the PS4 Pro. I’m not against paying more money for a superior product and experience, but the fastest car in the world is only as valuable as the roads it has to drive on. Objectively, the Xbox One X is more powerful than the PS4 Pro, but the PS4 exclusives lineup is almost undeniably better than what is being offered by Microsoft.

I still think that the Xbox One X has the potential to sell well, and the hardware itself is appealing. Perhaps the exclusive games lineup could improve over time, but overall, I was underwhelmed by the titles Microsoft showed off. Something was missing. People buy consoles for games like Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, God of War, or Halo. Not many are going to buy a $499 USD 4K capable console so that they can play Forza Motorsport 7, or Sea of Thieves, even though the latter looks fun as hell.

Of course, this is all from my perspective, and I’m trying to be objective and really wouldn’t mind an Xbox One X if it made sense. What do you think, though? Does the Xbox One X have the games it needs to compete with the PS4 family? Is the price point too high? Are you impressed enough with the power of the hardware that you’re willing to pick one up? Do you even own a 4K TV to play games in 4K resolution?
