With the new April update in place, Animal Crossing: New Horizons players have the opportunity to expand their Museum with pieces of art acquired by Redd. • Speak to Blathers who'll tell you he's now accepting art.
  • Make sure you've made at least 60 donations to the Museum during your time in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
  • If you haven't, donate additional specimens to meet that threshold, then wait until the following day.
  • If all requirements have been met, Redd will dock on your island.
  • Isabelle will let you know the first time Redd is about in your daily announcement. You should be able to find him wandering around the island in a similar manner to C.J. or Flick.
  • Redd will offer to sell you art for the museum, and once he's agreed to lower the price, will give you a first piece of art. Give this to Blathers to start the museum expansion.

As you enjoy the new additions during the Nature Day event and changes made through the April update, you can also interact with new characters in Animal Crossing: New Horizons like Redd. Serving as the game’s resident art dealer, you can buy and collect pieces of art from Redd to display in the new art wing of your Museum.

Of course, that wing won’t be available until you speak to Redd and start buying/donating art to Blathers. To get started, you’ll first need to speak to Blathers who’ll let you know he now accepts art donations. After that, you’re going to need to get Redd to come to your island in order to buy art. To do this, you’re going to want ensure your Museum has been given some love.

To be more specific, in order for Redd to appear, your Museum will need to house a total of 60 donated items as indicated by outlets like Prima Games. For example, 30 Fossils, 15 Bugs, and 15 Fish for a total of 60 overall donations. Note that the donations you’ve already made count towards this total, so if you only have 58 donated items, you can donate a few more to meet that donation threshold.

When you’ve submitted your remaining donations, you’ll need to wait until the following in-game day for Redd to dock on your island. To check to see if you’ve expanded your Museum properly, you can “time travel” by adjusting your Nintendo Switch’s date to the following day. If you see Redd on your island, you’ll know you’ve properly met your donation threshold in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Isabelle will inform you that a suspicious individual is about the first time he arrives on your island.

If you don’t see Redd, you’re going to want to take the time to donate more specimens to Blathers. A great way to do this is to go on a few mystery island tours where you can collect more Fossils, as well as rare Bugs and Fish. Again, you’ll need to have donated a total of 60 specimens to Blathers before Redd will come to your island.

After your initial encounter with Redd, you'll be able to buy art on future dates by finding his ship. It'll be docked around the edge of your island on one of the rocky sections. We've seen it at the back of the island, hidden down on one of the rock areas there. Be sure to explore your island edges thoroughly to spot it (and don't put a giant monster statue in front or you won't be able to get aboard!

Note - You can't enter Redd's ship on the first day that he arrives. You'll want to remember what it looks like though!
