To catch a mole cricket in Animal Crossing: New Horizons you need to grab a shovel and net, turn up the volume, and listen out for their chirping. It’s very distinctive, and once you start to recognize it, you’ll struggle to stop hearing it whenever they’re about (they sound just like a cricket it real life, but one that never stops making noise). Before you get to it though, make sure it’s the right season by checking the mole cricket details below:

  • When: All Day, November to May (Northern Hemisphere), May to November (Southern Hemisphere)
  • Where: Ground (Buried)
  • Value: 500 Bells

Once you hear the chirping, run around the nearby area, and listen for where the noise gets loudest. The mole cricket is buried underground at the point where the chirping is loudest, so get your shovel out and dig. Don’t worry if you don’t get it on the first go, the mole cricket doesn’t run away, so you just need to keep digging in the loud area until you find it.

Once you dig in the correct spot, the chirping will stop and you’ll pop the mole cricket up above the ground. At this point it’ll start scampering away from you, so swap to your net quickly, chase it and catch it. Once you’ve dug one up, it’s not hard to catch a mole cricket, but they can take you by surprise and get away before you get your net prepared. So long as you’re ready, you shouldn’t have trouble.
