Sony have made the first three Uncharted games and indie hit Journey free to everyone on PlayStation for the next three weeks to help with social distancing measures.
Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection gathers together the original trilogy of the supernatural treasure-hunting games, remastered for PS4. Journey, from Thatgamecompany, is a spell-binding wordless story through abstract landscapes where strangers can drop in and help you along your way together. Both can be downloaded for free from PSN starting today at 8pm PDT until May 5 at 8pm PDT.
While you only have a limited time to download them, Sony assures that once you've redeemed the free gifts they are yours to keep. Instead of the Uncharted collection, players in Germany and China will be given Knack 2. Not quite the all-timer that the Nathan Drake games are but worth it for the meme value.
The Play At Home initiative aims to help provide entertainment to the PlayStation community during social distancing necessary to reduce the spread of the coronavirus causing COVID-19. However it also includes a fund to support independent developers who may be suffering financial hardships during this time.
Sony have earmarked $10 million to support indie devs throughout this period, and will be announcing more information including participation criteria at some point in the near future.
"During these days of physical distancing, fans have turned to gaming for moments of respite and enjoyment," Sony said in today's announcement. "At Sony Interactive Entertainment, we are privileged to bring this much-needed entertainment. We know this is just one small step and we are thankful to be able to offer this support to our players, our communities, and our partners."
