In the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, you’re free to select a difficulty level at the beginning of the game. You’re also able to adjust the difficulty at any point after that as long as you’re in a safe area outside of combat. As of right now, there are four difficulty levels in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake which include Easy, Normal, Classic, and Hard.

Note that you’ll need to beat the game on any of the three initial difficulty settings in order to unlock the Hard difficulty setting.

If you’re a newcomer to the Final Fantasy series and are uncertain whether you’ll be able to play at a Normal difficulty, you can select the Easy setting. If it’s too Easy for you, you’re able to freely swap it over to Normal. If you select Classic, your character will move automatically, allowing you to focus more on the commands you give out rather than having to time everything yourself.

For a challenge, start at the Normal difficulty setting, beat the game, then go back in and try to finish the game on the Hard difficulty setting. Hard difficulty is definitely one that’ll put your skills to the test, which is great for Final Fantasy veterans.

To adjust the difficulty in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, you’ll need to press the Options button and open the System menu. Here, you’ll need to select Options and navigate to the Gameplay section. In Gameplay, you’ll find an adjustable Difficulty category. Interact with this and choose your desired difficulty from the available options (Easy, Normal, Classic, or Hard if you’ve unlocked it) and then save your new settings.
