American Football, Anamanaguchi headline music festival in Minecraft this weekend

Baths and HANA will also perform at Nether Meant, a music festival held in a Minecraft server to raise money for COVID-19 relief.

A music festival will be played in a Minecraft server this weekend hosted by American Football, Anamanguchi and a host of other bands to raise money for COVID-19 relief funds.

As musicians continue to be unable to perform live to their fans, many are turning to the internet to keep their audience entertained during extended lockdowns caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Twitch recently announced a partnership with SoundCloud so artists could connect with their fans more easily and host live shows from their lockdown locations. However festivals important to the music calendar, such as SXSW and Glastonbury, offer more than just hearing your artist perform, and that's something Nether Meant is hoping to replace.

The Nether Meant festival will be held in the Elsewither Minecraft server, a virtual world based on Brooklyn's legendary Elsewhere club, designed and built in collaboration with the club owners. Open Pit will be hosting the festival, after several previous virtual music events named after other real-world festivals such as Coalchella and Firefest.

The festival will be streamed on the Open Pit Twitch channel on Saturday April 11, starting at 6pm ET. Minecraft players can also purchase VIP tickets which will give them access to 'special VIP areas in-game', and some in-game merch. VIP ticket proceeds will be donated to the COVID-19 relief fund set up by Good360.

“I’m looking forward to (finally) being able to prove to my 7-year-old son that I do, indeed, have a job,” American Football’s Mike Kinsella said in a statement.

You can enjoy the virtual festival by listening to the audio stream from the Elsewither site, join the Minecraft server by entering "play.elsewither.club" into the server address finder (and enable Server Resource Pack), or by watching the Twitch stream.
