When it comes to “what to do” with Lost Items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, the easy answer is to return them. However, if you’ve never done this before, you may not know where to start. After picking up a Lost Item, you can select it in your inventory and “Investigate” what it is. Although, this won’t always give you clues as to its owner.

Instead, what you’re going to want to do is go around and speak with the Villagers who live on your island. When you interact with them, you can ask them whether the Lost Item is theirs. If they say no, they’ll often give you a clue as to who they think it belongs to. For example, we asked Tank if he dropped the Lost Item we found and he said no, then directed us to ask Chrissy.

When we asked Chrissy if the item was hers, the answer was yes! When you find the owner of the Lost Item, you’ll hand it over and they’ll reward you for finding it with a gift. To earn more gifts this way, simply keep an eye out for Lost Items on your island!

Now that you know what to do with Lost Items in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, we have a few other guides we think you might enjoy including when Bunny Day is in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, how to get all Bunny Day recipes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and how to change your island flag in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
