Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been keeping many of us busy creating our perfect paradise over the weekend, going so far as to set sales records in Japan.
Despite releasing on Friday it was the top selling game last week in Japan according to industry magazine Famitsu (as translated by Gematsu) with 1,880,626 happy campers jetting off on Nook Airlines.
This makes it the best-selling launch week for a Nintendo game in the country, overtaking former record holders Pokemon Sword and Shield at 1,364,544 and Super Smash Bros Ultimate at 1,238,358.

Notably these retail figures only count physical sales up until Sunday, meaning that in the days since there have been a number of uncounted sales, and also digital sales are completely unrecorded so far.
Given that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is one of those drop-in and drop-out games for short or long play sessions, plenty of people may have decided on going digital over physical, meaning the true sales figure could be far higher.
Needless to say, it's the best launch for an Animal Crossing game so far, and plenty of us are thankful for Tom Nook's offer to whisk us away to a happier place at the moment.
