In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Wisp is an NPC you only encounter at night. This makes sense as he’s a ghost. Unlike the tarantulas lurking about in the shadows, Wisp is friendly.

When you see Wisp, approach him and speak to him. When you do this, you’ll startle him, and five pieces of his Spirit will scatter around your island. After this happens, Wisp will ask you to find these pieces and return them to him in exchange for a reward.

To do this successfully, you’ll need to wander around your island until you spot a floating Spirit piece. Using a Net, catch the Spirit piece like you would a Butterfly or Moth. Again, Wisp has lost five Spirit pieces, so you’ll need to do this five times.

All five Spirit pieces are contained within your island, so circling around a few times should help you find them, even if you don’t have a Ladder to climb to certain areas.

When you’ve collected all five Spirit pieces, return to Wisp and hand them over. In exchange for your efforts, Wisp will offer you a reward.

Note that you can visit Wisp every night, scare him every night, and collect his five Spirit pieces every night to receive a reward. It’s not the nicest thing to do, but it’s a great way to farm for house items.

Something New or Something Expensive?

Wisp will ask you whether you want something new, or something expensive. If you tell him you want something new, Wisp will give you something you don’t already own. What Wisp gives you is totally random, but with this selection, you are guaranteed something you don’t have already.

If you choose something expensive, Wisp will say, “I’m not that great at judging the value of items, so I’m not totally sure if this item is worth a lot.” The item Wisp gives you could be expensive, or it could be common.

Again, what you get is totally random. With this option, it’s possible to receive something you already own, though we haven’t run into this problem yet. Sometimes, Wisp will tell you what you’re getting in that he’ll say he’s giving you some wallpaper for example.

Other times, Wisp won’t give you any hints and what you get is a total surprise. We’ve received wallpaper from Wisp before, but we’ve also received a Shaved Ice Machine.

To recap, you can visit Wisp every night. When you speak to him, you’ll scare him and scatter five Spirit pieces around your island. Find them and bring them, and you’ll get a random reward in Animal Crossing: New Horizons!
