Animal Crossing’s Island isn’t much of a challenged to get about, but even after you’ve gained the vaulting pole, whipping it out to hop over rivers each time can be a bit of a pain It won’t be long before you want to build a bridge in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but doing so it going to take some time. Don’t worry, we’ll explain exactly what you need to do to build a bridge in Animal Crossing: New Horizons as quickly as possible.
How to build a bridge in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

You won’t be able to build a bridge in Animal Crossing: New Horizons until you’ve completed both the Nook’s Cranny shop and the Museum. You’ll also want to head out on a Mystery Island Tour so you can meet a new resident and invite them into town. Nook’s Cranny requires 30 Wood, Softwood, Hardwood and Iron Nuggets (more on how to get them, here), while the museum needs you to donate unique samples and fossils to Tom Nook and then Blathers.
Once Nook’s Cranny and the Museum have been built, Tom Nook will give an announcement in the morning, but be interrupted by a phone call. He’ll wander off, and that’s your chance to head over to him. Turns out Nook has been contacted by people who want to move onto the island, and he’s in need of some space.
Speak with Tom Nook and he’ll tell you that you need to open up some new space in the village, and then will give you the DIY recipe for the Bridge Construction Kit. You’ll need 4 clay, 4 stone, and 4 log stakes (another craftable item that takes 3 wood). Create the Bridge Construction Kit, then take it over to one of your rivers and you can place it down.
Once you’ve placed the Bridge Construction Kit, it’ll take a further day for the log bridge to be built on your island. Choose your position wisely, because the Bridge Construction Kit will then disappear from your DIY recipes.

After your frist bridge, you now can’t make another bridge until you’ve upgraded the Residents Services building. Once you have that, speak with Tom Nook inside and choose the option “Let’s talk infrastructure.” Tom Nook will then let you select from a range of bridges and inclines that you can set up on your island. Pick the one you want, then go and choose a place to put it.
Unfortunately, these bridges will be much more expensive than the first one. Once you’ve placed the bridge, Lloyd will appear and ask for donations. You’ll need to donate money over time until the bridge is paid off, and they’re really pretty expensive. How expensive? Check the list below and prepare to be astounded. Once you’re able to pay off the bill, the bridge will be constructed the following day. Make sure you know how to get bells quickly to pay it off as soon as possible.
