Sign up for the next PS4 system update beta

Testing now open to players in Canada, too.

Sony is looking for volunteers to help beta-test an upcoming PlayStation 4 system update.

If you're over 18 and based in North America or (for the first time) Canada, you can register to test version 5.50, with signups open until the beta goes live, expected to be early February.

If you're successful, you'll get an email when the beta goes live with instructions on how to download it, and you will be able to roll back to a previous system update at any time if you're not happy with the beta.

Sony has done this before, allowing some users to test out version 5.00, which includes new family features, friend list management, message improvements, and other elements.

It's not clear yet what we should expect from 5.50, but it's obviously substantial enough to warrant some live testing with a larger audience, so hopefully it will be pretty interesting.
