  • Have your strength at 0 (don’t eat anything).
  • Find a Rock that hasn’t been mined for the day.
  • With your Shovel, dig holes behind you to prevent you from bouncing back.
  • Use your Shovel and dig at the Rock around 8 times.
  • Some Rocks will yield Bells, others Rocks and Clay, and the best Rocks will drop lots and lots of Iron!

In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, one of the harder materials to get your hands on is Iron. To get Iron, you’ll need to interact with Rocks scattered around your island, or the islands of others, every day. By interacting with them the standard way – hitting them with your Axe a couple of times – you’ll only get 1-2 Iron on average if you get any Iron at all.

It can take forever to get the 30 Iron needed to build a Shop for Timmy this way, but fortunately, there’s a neat trick that’ll help you get more Iron. To perform the trick, you need to be at 0 strength, meaning don’t chow down on any cherries until you’re done mining Rocks. With your strength at 0, find a Rock that hasn’t been mined.

Hold your Shovel and dig holes behind you to prevent you from bouncing back. With your holes dug, dig at the Rock with your Shovel approximately 8 times to knock more resources loose than normal. Note that the materials you get are randomized. You can either get Rocks, Clay, Bells, or Iron by doing this.

When you strike it rich with an Iron haul, you’ll be able to get more Iron on average this way than you would the normal way. Keeping this method in mind, you should be able to get the 30 Iron for Timmy in no time!
