Physical pre-orders for Animal Crossing delayed by Amazon

You may have a little trouble getting your physical copies of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Gamers are reporting delays from Amazon on their physical Animal Crossing: New Horizons pre-orders. If you ordered a digital copy you’ll be able to play the game on Nintendo Switch as soon as it unlocks midnight Thursday. Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee your physical copies will arrive on time.

In a story that feels reminiscent of one we wrote about Final Fantasy VII’s physical pre-order delays, Amazon is having some difficulty in shipping out Animal Crossing: New Horizons pre-orders.

According to several gamers on social media and reports from websites like Polygon, Amazon has been updating the shipping status of previously placed pre-orders to reflect delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It’s the same reason why Final Fantasy VII’s physical pre-orders may not arrive on time, and why people may have trouble purchasing physical copies of games like Doom Eternal as well.

Essentially, everything is either cancelled or delayed in light of COVID-19. A few options remain if you prefer physical games over digital, like GameStop who apparently refuses to close because… they’re GameStop.

Personally, we strongly suggest against heading out to your local GameStop to buy games. It’s simply not worth the risk. The best thing to do right now is hunker down at home and play games (ones you purchase digitally) in order to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

In conclusion, if you pre-ordered a physical copy of Animal Crossing: New Horizons from Amazon and you see that it’s delayed, you may want to just cancel your order and purchase the game digitally from the Nintendo eShop instead.
