How to prepare for Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Everything you need to get ready for your island getaway in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

We’re almost there, just a precious few hours until Animal Crossing: New Horizons releases! We did it everyone!

While there’s still a little time left to wait before you jet off to your very own deserted island, you can still be getting ready to live your new life to the fullest. Aside from the sunglasses, sandals and Hawaiian shirts, here are a few things to make sure you have with you before diving into the deep blue seas of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

A Diary

There’s a good reason why one of the pre-order rewards for Animal Crossing: New Horizons was a lovely planner diary. Animal Crossing is a series all about the seasons, celebrating the changing landscape throughout the year in a uniquely Japanese way. Some activities, fruit, plants, and even bugs will only appear at certain times of the year. Not to mention the real-time mechanics of these things growing back after you pick them.

However, there are also the villagers to take into consideration. You wouldn’t want your new best friends to experience the grief of learning that you’ve forgotten their birthday, would you? If you’re like us – or you just enjoy being efficient on your relaxing island getaway – grabbing a bullet journal will let you record all the important times for turning your island into paradise.

Some Buds

Speaking of enjoying paradise, nothing helps you relax more than sharing a game world with a real world friend. Check with your pals to find out who’s going to be getting Animal Crossing: New Horizons and then share your Dodo codes with each other to check out how you both are decorating your new homes. You can talk with each other using the Nintendo Switch Online app on your phone, or just using Discord (though the Switch app might offer some better in-game functionality after launch).

Some Other Buds

While more’s the merrier, you won’t need too many friends to enjoy your secluded little spot in the sea. What you will need is a way to immerse yourself in your new surroundings, and what better way than with some good earbuds? HyperX Cloud Earbuds are small and portable, just like your Switch, but can also block out the world around you, allowing you to kick back and relax with some of K.K. Slider’s best tunes, or just the rhythmic, slow lapping of waves on the beach.

Vacation Juice

It’s not vacation until you get your favorite drink, so follow Isabelle’s example and have your preferred hydration on hand before starting. If you’re going to be playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons all launch weekend, definitely stock up on stuff to quaff before release. Can’t be running out of potables and wasting precious bug-catching time when you discover you have to restock!

Extra Juice

And once you’ve got yourself sorted for refreshments, why leave your Switch high and dry as well? Share the love by making sure your Switch is topped up throughout your long sessions with the extra juice provided by the Chargeplay Clutch. It’s a safe-to-use battery pack with comfortable controller grips that connects to the USB port of your Nintendo Switch. Power it up, hook up your Switch, and enjoy up to 5 hours more time with your new camping pals, even while camping!

HyperX accessories for the Nintendo Switch

With all that in hand, you should now be just about ready to head out on your island adventure in Animal Crossing: New Horizons! Enjoy the sun, sea, and sand!
