Discord cures coronavirus isolation woes with bigger screenshare parties

Discord will increase screenshare group limits from 10 to 50 people to gather more people together in trying times.

The folks over at Discord are doing what they can to help gamers out in their time of need by offering to up the limit on screenshare participants while many are isolated during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

The chat app's efforts to try and alleviate the loneliness caused by people isolating themselves during the global health crisis involve offering larger groups for them to play games alongside.

"We’ve heard from so many of you over the past few weeks," writes Discord CEO Jason Citron in a blog post about the change. "People — particularly in regions harder hit by COVID-19 — are already using Discord to keep in touch and stay on track with their everyday lives, from attending classes remotely to working from home.

"We wanted to find a way to help, so we’re temporarily upping the limit on Go Live to 50 people at a time, up from 10. Go Live is free to use and lets people privately stream or screen share apps from a computer while others watch on any device — so teachers can conduct a class, co-workers can collaborate, and groups can still meet."

You can find out more about Discord's Go Live and screensharing options, and how to enable them, by heading here. The limit increase is only temporary but has been promised to last as long as the crisis is causing people to suffer.

The COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has already caused a number of events to be cancelled and companies to send employees home, increasing the loneliness people are facing. Discord's attempt to do what they can to help communities through this time is one of the few rays of hope we are seeing.
