Is there a Solo mode in Call of Duty: Warzone?

Addressing whether there are Solo or Duo options in Call of Duty: Warzone.

With the release of Call of Duty: Warzone comes questions of Squad composition, specifically, whether there’s a Solo mode available. While playing Trios can be a fun way to meet new people, playing Solo is equally as fun. To help give you a better idea as to what’s available, we’ve put together a quick feature answering whether there’s a Solo mode in Call of Duty: Warzone.

  • No, there is no Solo mode currently available in Call of Duty: Warzone.

The quick answer to the question of whether there’s a Solo mode available in Call of Duty: Warzone is no, there’s not. We addressed the number of players per team supported in Call of Duty: Warzone in a previous article, though we felt it’d be good to speak directly to the Solo crowd here.

As of right now, the only mode available is Trios. You can’t play Duos, you can’t play Solo, you can’t even play in a Squad of four... all you can do is play in a Squad of three. That’s it.

The lack of Solos and Duos is already a point of contention within the Call of Duty community as many have pointed out that other Battle Royale titles including Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds offer Solos and Duos. Heck, even Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode offered more Squad variety than Warzone.

So, why is Call of Duty: Warzone so incredibly limited?

Well, on the surface, it seems like Call of Duty: Warzone is trying to mimic Apex Legends, which also forces its players to team up in Squads of three. Like Apex Legends, you can also break off from your group of three in Call of Duty: Warzone to handle things on your own, though it’s not the same as an actual Solos option.

In the past, Respawn has offered Solos and Duos as limited time events in Apex Legends, so we may see something similar in Call of Duty: Warzone. At least, we hope so. In the future, it’d be nice if Call of Duty: Warzone (and even Apex Legends at this point) could let go of the “Trios only” mentality to offer more options including Solos and Duos as permanent features.

Until changes are made though, you can only play Trios in Call of Duty: Warzone.
