The Octane Heirloom set will only be available for free during the System Override event, which will run from March 3-17. During the event, 24 premium cosmetics will be available to earn by completing daily challenges for the event, or through opening System Override event packs.

To get the Octane Heirloom set in Apex Legends, you’re going to need to unlock all 24 System Override cosmetics during the course of the event. That means working hard to complete each and every daily challenge for the event, and probably also picking up a few packs as well, praying to the RNG gods that they’ll deliver the cosmetics you’re missing.

Respawn Entertainment confirmed the system for unlocking the Octane Heirloom set in the reveal post for the System Override event. Interestingly, they note that this is the only way to ‘unlock the Octane Heirloom set for free’, which should mean it’ll become available to purchase directly once the event has concluded. So if you don’t have time to wrap up all those challenges then, as is depressingly true with many things in life, you can always rely on money to solve your problems for you.

You can view the challenges for the day from the main menu of Apex Legends, where they should appear on the right-hand side of the screen. Remember, the challenges won’t be available until the System Override event kicks off on March 3, so you can’t get the Octane Heirloom set in Apex Legends until then.
