If you were looking for a good new game to play this month, Xbox Game Pass has decided to serve up two corkers today on January 23. Developed by Asobo Studio, A Plague Tale: Innocence is a narrative stealth adventure which follows siblings Hugo and Amelia as they try to survive and even find a family in a plague and inquisition ridden medieval fantasy France. It’s a brutal game at times, but one with an awful lot of heart.
We loved the delivery by both Amicia and Hugo, and thoroughly enjoyed the puzzle-solving gameplay, but found the pure stealth sections a touch weaker than the rest. When it’s being served up for free we couldn’t recommend playing through A Plague Tale: Innocence more, and if you do then be sure to check out our comprehensive guides for all collectible Gift and Hugo’s Herbarium locations. It’s especially worth playing through now with rumors of a sequel on the horizon.
Indivisible is developed by Lab Zero, the studio behind cult classic and incredibly stylish fighting game, Skullgirls. This time round the studio opted to produce a sidescrolling action RPG, though they’ve retained a distinguished and colorful comic art style. The story follows Ajna, a strong-willed girl who sets out into a fantasy world after her village is attacked. There’s plenty of fun and thought in the storyline, as well as smart tweaks to the RPG combat system, making Indivisible well worth a go.
Game Pass Jan 30: Sea Salt and Fishing Sim World: Pro Tour
Along with A Plague Tale and Indivisible, January 30 will sea two more games join the Game Pass program. Sea Salt flips the traditional Cthulu-colored script, letting you play as an elder god attempting to overrun human lands by summoning hordes of minions. Fishing Sim World: Pro Tour is a touch less world-destroying, instead letting you peacefully travel the planet to compete in angling competitions online and off as you establish yourself as the best line-tosser in the business. Oh, and it also has one of the most intense trailers we've ever seen for a game about fishing. Have a look (and listen) for yourself:
Xbox Game Pass costs $9.99 per month to sign up, with the PC-spanning Game Pass Ultimate charging $14.99. If you haven’t signed up before, Microsoft offers one month at a discounted price of $1 so you can see if you like the service.
