Nier Automata’s emotional story and varied gameplay resonated with many, and the stylishly unusual design of android protagonist 2B has proven extremely popular, especially with cosplayers. As action combat masters and the creators of Bayonetta, we imagine PlatinumGames would love to have another character crop up in Smash. Then again, given Mai Shiranui was barred because Smash is for “good boys and girls”, perhaps 2B would B a little 2 much.
Urshifu

Pokemon Sword and Shield's newly announced Isle of Armor DLC puts trainers in charge of a new legendary Pokemon. Treat this bear cub right and he'll evolve into a fighting creature named Urshifu which can adopt either a single-strike or rapid-strike stance. One look at this creature confirms he'd be a perfect fit for a fighting game, and a great chance for Smash to experiment with a stance-based fighter. Urshifu could have two separate movesets based on the stance he holds, a very exciting prospect indeed. If Isle of Armor is popular, this seems like a no-brainer.
Goku

Goku’s appeal is pretty much worldwide, meaning he’s a great choice to please both Japanese and Western audiences. The excellent Dragon Ball FighterZ has also only left us all the more eager to get him in more quality fighters. However, as a character that didn’t originate in a video game, he’s unlikely. We can dream though, right?
No more Fire Emblem characters
Listen, we adore Fire Emblem. Three Houses was our personal game of the year for 2019. We’d personally love to play as Edelgard or Claude in Smash, but we also understand that other game series deserve their time in the light. Fire Emblem now has eight representatives in the game (with depressingly little representation for Axe and Lance lovers). It’s time for other series to get more recognition.
