Paladins Battlegrounds joins the battle royale showdown

Hi-Rez announces first "hero shooter battle royale" game mode.

The annual Hi-Rez expo began today with news that the Smite developers are throwing their hat into the battle royale ring with a game mode for their popular F2P hero shooter, Paladins: Battlegrounds.

Battlegrounds' premise should be familiar to anyone playing its obvious namesake PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, as 100 players are dropped onto a huge map and tasked with surviving to the last alive.

Paladins – probably best known as releasing in the same period as Overwatch with similar hero abilities and cartoonish graphics – brings the concept of the "hero shooter" to an already saturated genre.
