Watts are a new form of currency that you’re able to earn fairly early on in Pokemon Sword and Shield. The first time we were able to earn Watts was in the Wild Area outside of Motostoke. In this are, you’ll find a ton of Pokemon to battle with and capture. If you spot one with a Brilliant Aura, you can earn Watts simply by defeating it in battle, or successfully catching it.

Additionally, there are beacons of red light over active Pokemon Dens that indicate a Max Raid Battle. By participating in a Max Raid Battle, you’ll earn Watts and be able to catch strong Pokemon. You can also earn Watts by interacting with inactive Pokemon Dens, which look similar to Max Raid Battle locations but without the beacon of red light.

The more Watts you earn, the more items you’ll be able to purchase from Watt Traders. Outside the steps leading into Motostoke, you’ll find a Watt Trader, with more located all throughout the Galar region. As you browse their inventory, you’ll see how many Watts you have, and how many Watts are required to purchase things like TRs.

To make it easier to buy more items, we’ve listed all of the ways you can farm Watts in Pokemon Sword and Shield!

  • Look for Pokemon with a Brilliant Aura and either defeat them in battle, or capture them.
  • Interact with inactive Pokemon Dens. Note that these Dens recharge, so check back later to farm them again.
  • Participate in Max Raid Battles at active Pokemon Dens with a red beacon of light.
  • Try out the Rotom Rally. The longer the course, the more Watts you’ll earn.

To regularly farm for Watts in Pokemon Sword and Shield, you’ll want to go around and check inactive Pokemon Dens as these regularly recharge, allowing you to continue to earn Watts from them. You can also run through the Rotom Rally, with longer courses rewarding you with more Watts.

While exploring Wild Areas, keep an eye out for Pokemon with a Brilliant Aura, and run through a few Max Raid Battles if you have the time. By doing all of these things, you’ll be able to earn a nice supply of Watts which can be used to purchase items like TRs from Watt Traders.
