Not only is the Galar region massive, there are a lot of little features and side areas to explore that add to the overall experience. Pokemon Sword and Shield will take most players anywhere from 40-60 hours to beat. As you’d expect, the exact time it’ll take you to beat varies depending on how you decide to play the game.

If you want to race straight through to the end by skipping all movie cutscenes and speeding up text dialogue, you should be able to beat Pokemon Sword and Shield in 40 hours or less. If you want to take your time exploring every area, catching every Pokemon, and watching every movie cutscene, it may take you upwards of 60 hours to beat.

During our time with Pokemon Sword and Shield, we were able to beat the game after roughly 47 hours. Keep in mind that our playstyle was mixed as we spent decided to skip movie cutscenes about halfway through, but spent a fair amount of time in the Wild Area hunting for Pokemon.

After you beat Pokemon Sword and Shield, there’s a fair bit of end-game content. Partaking in end-game content can increase your time with the game, though end-game content is also entirely optional. Again, the quickest time to beat Pokemon Sword and Shield is 40 hours or less, while the longest completion time you’re looking at is around 60 hours.
