There’s a cold wind in the air, and that can only mean one thing. The holidays are closing in once again and it’s time to start hunting down gifts for the folks close to your heart. Knowing what to buy a game-savvy friend can be tricky, but it needn’t be frustrating. If you have a PlayStation fan on your list, we’ve put together a quick PS4 holiday gift guide for 2019 so that you can be sure to collect something they’ll like.

PS4 Holiday gift guide 2019

PS4 Pro bundles

Chances are, if you’re shopping for PlayStation goods then your gift target already has a PlayStation 4. Even if they do, or if you’re looking at picking up a console for the first time, you’ll want to keep an eye on the bundle deals towards the end of the year. Particularly for the PS4 Pro. If you know your loved one or friend already has a PS4, upgrading to a Pro for the extra power can be a wonderful treat, especially if they’re rocking a 4K TV.

Last year Marvel’s Spider-Man dominated the bundle deals, with a PS4 Slim and the game coming in at around $199. A PS4 Pro and Red Dead Redemption 2 cost about $399. With a year gone by, expect these prices to drop a good amount. Wait for the sales and don’t pay more than $200 for a Slim or $400 for PS4 Pro unless they come with a brand new game like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare or Death Stranding.

PSVR

If you want to offer something unique PlayStation VR remains a great gift for anyone with a PS4. Pair it with a unique experience like Tetris Effect and you’re bound to impress. Plus, there’s always the chance you’ll get to try it out yourself! Last year the best PSVR bundles were discounted to $199 with a great game like Astro Bot included. We’re not sure if they’ll drop any lower than that this year, but you should avoid paying more than $200 unless several games are thrown in the mix. If the PS4 player in your life likes to keep up to date, there are several games dropping at the end of this year that you’ll want to keep an eye on. Death Stranding or Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are solid choices for single player gamers, while Call of Duty will keep the multiplayer gamer busy for some time to come. Don’t expect many discounts during sales periods (though console bundles may appear) on these titles, but they’ll make for great presents if you don’t mind paying full price.

There have been so many great games released this year and the last that it’s almost impossible to have played them all. Below, we’ve listed a few of our favorite releases that would make for excellent gifts. Just make sure your gift recipient hasn’t already played them!

PlayStation Plus subscription

To play most games online with a PS4, you need to be a PlayStation Plus member. That means offering a chunk of months or even a year as a gift is a lovely touch! As an added bonus, Sony releases new games that subscribers can download for free, making it an even better deal. Amazon often discounts these cards near to Black Friday and the holidays, so look for offers that beat the prices below.

The PS4’s DualShock 4 controllers are pretty great, but they’re also expensive. That means buying one as a gift can be very handy indeed. There are plenty of colors on offer so feel free to browse. We prefer the Magma Red and Midnight Blue options, but keep an eye out for discounts on others near Black Friday. If you want to keep those batteries topped up, the HyperX Chargeplay Duo is another great option.

While it might not be the most fun, another handy present is the gift of extra space, also known as a 2TB Seagate hard drive. This will let your PS4 owner store up many more games and saves without uninstalling.
