  • Enter a body of water and move forward to swim automatically.
  • Press A on Xbox One, X on PlayStation 4, or Space on PC to dive and initiate a Speed Boost to swim faster.

One of the first things you’ll need to learn as you explore the Fortnite Chapter 2 map is how to swim. With a wealth of swamps, lakes, rivers, and ponds scattered throughout the map, getting to a safe area may require you to go directly through water. To do this, you’ll have to swim. What’s nice is that swimming shouldn’t be too difficult in Fortnite Chapter 2.

For example, when we first attempted to swim to the other side of a river, all we did was sprint into the water itself and then move forward. Once in the water, your character should automatically begin to swim. In some instances, you may also need to hold down sprint to get your character to paddle their way through the water.

We primarily encountered this issue when diving into the water as opposed to entering it from the shore. While this covers the basics of how to not drown in Fortnite Chapter 2, there are some fancy moves you can perform while swimming as well that are worth keeping in mind. Of these moves, the one you’ll want to master is the Speed Boost.

If you want to perform a Speed Boost while swimming, you’ll have to initiate a dive. To do this, press A on Xbox One, X on PlayStation 4, and Space on PC to jump while you’re swimming in the water to have them jump out and then dive back in. When done properly, you should get a nice Speed Boost that can be key in evading enemy fire should someone spot you from the shore.
