FF7 Remake will also feature 'Classic Mode' for nostalgic battles

For FF7 fans who aren't ready to let the past go.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake will come with the option to switch the combat back to something closer to turn-based action for JRPG fans who aren't quite ready to enter the 21st century.

The 'Classic Mode' option will turn encounters back into scenes more familiar to those who completed the 1997 genre masterpiece, giving you time to issue commands instead of swinging a sword.

While not quite the take-your-turn organized affair of the original, the Classic Mode option removes the need to hack and slash to build up the ATB gauge. Your characters will continue fighting automatically, giving you time to be the master tactician on the field and choose when to use more complicated commands.

Usually when you've successfully filled the ATB gauge with standard attacks, you can activate summons or cast magic. However in Classic Mode because the AI takes care of the fighting for you the ATB gauge fills over time automatically, you're free to choose commands without having to go hog wild with a buster sword. This leaves you in charge of when to call for magic and summons, like Ifrit and Shiva, to do even more of the dirty work for you.

Classic Mode combat is just one of the many alterations to FF7's updated gameplay that Square Enix are including in the Remake. There will also be an easy mode, so that players can experience what, for many, is the greatest story ever told in games without worrying about dying in combat.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake's Classic Mode is just one more reason we're excited to play the first episode when it releases on March 3, 2020.
