Following the free 2.0 update for Tetris 99, a wealth of new Themes have been added to help you customize each match. Rather than unlocking these new 2.0 Themes through special events, you now can earn Tickets and use them to “purchase” Themes. Wondering what sort of Themes are available in Tetris 99? Below, we’ve put together a full guide that lists all Themes currently available in Tetris 99 and how to get them!
All Themes available in Tetris 99

In Tetris 99, you can change your background Theme from the “Customize” menu. Not only do Themes dictate your background art, they also come with their own music, sound effects, and Tetrimino designs. For example, if you have the Fire Emblem: Three Houses Theme enabled, you’ll see a backdrop with game art from Fire Emblem: Three Houses and will hear soundtrack for the game rather than the default Tetris 99 music.
Prior to the 2.0 update, new Themes were only available as part of Tetris Maximus Cup events. Now, you can earn Tickets and exchange them for 10 brand new Themes. All Themes in Tetris 99
- Default Theme - Immediately available to you in Tetris 99.
- Special Theme 01 (Game Boy) - Earned by participating in a previous Tetris Maximus Cup event.
- Special Theme 02 (Splatoon 2) - Earned by participating in a previous Tetris Maximus Cup event.
- Special Theme 03 (Fire Emblem: Three Houses) - Earned by participating in a previous Tetris Maximus Cup event.
- Special Theme 04 (Super Kirby Clash) - Earned by participating in a previous Tetris Maximus Cup event.
- Special Theme 05 (Luigi's Mansion 3) - Earned by participating in a previous Tetris Maximus Cup event.
- Special Theme 06 (Pokemon Sword and Shield) - Earned by participating in a previous Tetris Maximus Cup event.
- Special Theme 07 (Ring Fit Adventure) - Earned by participating in a previous Tetris Maximus Cup event.
- Special Theme 08 (Animal Crossing: New Horizons) - Earned by participating in a previous Tetris Maximus Cup event.
- Special Theme 09 (Paper Mario) - Earned by participating in a previous Tetris Maximus Cup event.
- Donkey Kong - Can be purchased for 15 Tickets.
- The Legend of Zelda - Can be purchased for 15 Tickets.
- Super Mario Bros. - Can be purchased for 15 Tickets.
- Toy Blocks - Can be purchased for 15 Tickets.
- Treasure Hunt - Can be purchased for 15 Tickets.
- School - Can be purchased for 15 Tickets.
- Elegant - Can be purchased for 15 Tickets.
- Scary Castle - Can be purchased for 15 Tickets.
- Fancy - Can be purchased for 15 Tickets.
- Galaxy - Can be purchased for 15 Tickets.
In the future, we expect to see more Themes added to Tetris 99 available in exchange for Tickets. We also expect to see more Tetris Maximus Cup events come out with the opportunity to earn exclusive new Themes like the ones for Splatoon 2 and Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
