In Remnant: From the Ashes, there are three difficulty settings to choose from: Normal, Hard, and Nightmare. Given how challenging Remnant: From the Ashes can be, it’s recommended that you play on Normal mode. If you’re looking for a challenge, choose Hard mode. We don’t recommend choosing Nightmare unless you’re already familiar with the game, though the choice is ultimately up to you.

After selecting your preferred difficulty at the beginning of the game, you have the ability to change it later on. However, to change the difficulty in Remnant: From the Ashes, you’ll need to visit a specific location. You can’t just change your difficulty from the main menu. To change your difficulty setting, you’ll first need to head over to the World Stone located in Ward 13.

Here, you’ll be able to open up and tweak your World Settings. Note that the only way to change your difficulty is the reroll option, which also restarts your game and wipes your progress. Depending on how far you are into the game, this can be worth it if you’re really struggling on Hard mode, for example.

If you’ve already completed most of the game on Normal and simply want to increase the difficulty, the progress loss can be more trouble than it’s worth. Your character, upgrades, and ability are preserved during a reroll, but literally nothing else. Keep this in mind before adjusting the difficulty in Remnant: From the Ashes!
