Gears 5 getting a Halo: Reach crossover

Gamescom 2019 offered a closer look at the Gears 5 campaign, Horde Mode, and a crossover with Halo Reach.

A wealth of news for Gears 5 dropped during the Gamescom 2019 Opening Night Live. With the game scheduled to launch on September 10, it makes sense that developer The Coalition would want to hype fans up as much as possible. Not only did they succeed, there was also a small tidbit about Gears Pop launching this Thursday for iOS, Android, and Windows 10 to help satiate your Gears thirst.

First, fans got a closer look at how Kait’s story will play out in Gears 5. In the description for the new Kait Unleashed trailer, a cryptic preview of what’s in store for players is included.

“Kait Diaz breaks away to uncover her connection to the enemy and discovers the true danger to Sera – herself.”

Based on this info, we anticipate the Gears 5 campaign to have some major story revelations and character building moments for Kait and we couldn’t be more excited. Outside of the campaign, five modes were confirmed for Gears 5 with Horde Mode getting a spicy preview trailer.

“The ultimate co-op experience is back! Battle waves of enemies with 4 friends as you fortify to survive and unleash your Ultimate abilities to turn the tide,” the trailer description reads. “Gears 5 launches September 6th with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.”

That’s right, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate owners will get access to Gears 5 several days ahead of its September 10 release date. If you don’t have Xbox Game Pass Ultimate right now, you may want to pick up a subscription! As added incentive to check out Gears 5, an exciting crossover was announced with Halo: Reach of all games.

With this crossover, characters from Halo: Reach will be available inside Gears 5 co-op modes, specifically Kat and Emil from Reach though we could always see other characters added in the future. Finally, with leaks being somewhat commonplace now, news the Gears 5 would be getting a Halo crossover came out slightly ahead of the confirmation at Gamescom 2019.

Either way, we're excited to play as one of our Halo: Reach favorites, Emil, in Gears 5 co-op modes! After all the information shown for Gears 5 at Gamescom 2019, we’re eager to hear your thoughts.
