Destiny 2 Shadowkeep offers universal Power Level changes

Shadowkeep is more approachable than previous Destiny 2 expansions.

In an exciting new update from Bungie, the studio outlined some of the changes coming through their latest Destiny 2 expansion, Shadowkeep. Among the details provided today, one that has players celebrating is news that the Power Level is being boosted for all players... and all items. The goal of this change is to make the game more approachable for new players and veterans alike.

Previous expansions for Destiny 2 have raised the Power Level cap and Shadowkeep will be no different in that regard. What is different is how the Power Level cap will be set to 750 for all players, new and old. Every single item in the game will also be raised up to a Power floor of 750 according to Bungie.

“We want to get new players and veterans colliding quickly. After Black Armory, we made a deliberate choice to try to do this with each Season. Both Season of the Drifter and Season of Opulence had bounties to boost up players’ Power Levels. With New Light and Shadowkeep being bigger moments of collision, we’re continuing that philosophy, but optimizing the mechanics to fit the moment,” Bungie explained.

“We’re setting the Power this Fall to 750 for both returning and new players. We want you to all be together when Shadowkeep opens. Here’s what this means:

  • Every single item in the game is being raised to a Power floor of 750 when Shadowkeep and New Light launch. Every item in your inventory (and Vault) is going to automatically jump to 750.
  • It’s like a free global burst of infusion for all players.

Which means that right now, you could (should) stop spending currency to infuse your gear sets or that C-tier of weapons that you’re keeping around until the patch notes just in case they are going to be good after the changes (there are many buffs coming and it is very tempting to spoil a bunch of them, but I said this wasn’t going to be patch notes)!”

As indicated by Bungie’s statement, all players should immediately stop spending currency to infuse gear sets as every item (and they really do mean every item) will be raised to a Power of 750 when Shadowkeep and New Light launch. This is extremely exciting, especially for new players struggling to catch up ahead of the October 1 release of Shadowkeep.

According to reports from sites like Prima, Bungie is also planning to consolidate power resources to match the changes outlined above. Namely, reducing things like Prime Engrams and boosting slot power of World Drops. Other things making a return in Shadowkeep are Pinnacle Power Sources. From what we can see, this is just a taste of the numerous tweaks planned for Destiny 2 and we’re excited to see what else Bungie has in store.

Until then, what are your thoughts on the Power Level changes for Shadowkeep? Are you excited that Power is being universally boosted to 750? Are you curious to see how this impacts items given that Bungie has confirmed everything’s getting a Power floor boost of 750? Let us know down in the comments below, and stay tuned as we’ll be posting updates on the Shadowkeep expansion for Destiny 2 as they’re made available!
