How to link and transfer your Destiny 2 account to Steam

Destiny 2 will be removed from Battle.net on October 1, so make sure you're ready by learning how to link and transfer your Destiny 2 account to Steam.

Destiny 2 is due to release on Steam in just a few months and if you’ve been happily playing away on Battle.Net, you might not have even realized the transfer is coming. Destiny will be removed from Battle.net on October 1, so it’s important to link your accounts before that occurs. If you’re a Destiny 2 PC player and aren’t sure what you need to do, this guide will explain how to transfer your Destiny 2 account to Steam.

The swap to Steam won’t be occurring until October 1, but you’ll be able to set up your account transfer as of August 20. This should leave plenty of time for you to make sure your account moves over from Battle.net to Steam, provided you take the necessary steps.

Bungie has set up a special page for the PC transfer and right now you can sign up to be notified as soon as the system comes online. They haven’t detailed the exact process yet, but it’s almost certain to involve linking both your Battle.net and Steam accounts on the Bungie website to allow them to tie your Destiny 2 account to both. They’ve also answered a few key questions related to the move. We’ve highlighted the biggest points to know below.

Is the transfer permanent?

Yes. The swap to Steam is a one-time transfer that’ll move your entire Destiny 2 content over to Valve’s client. That means your Guardians, Silver, passes and everything will make the jump. There’s no way to undo the move once it happens, as Destiny 2 will be completely removed from Battle.net after October 1.

What happens if you don’t link and transfer your account?

If you don’t link and transfer your account, you’ll lose it when Destiny 2 moves to Steam on October 1. This is a complete rehousing of where Destiny 2 is sold and played on PC, so if you’re a Destiny 2 player it’s imperative that you set up the transfer between August 20 and October 1.

The link and transfer of Destiny 2 accounts to Steam isn’t the only change on the way for Guardians. Cross save is also being added, letting you play with the same account on both consoles and PC. Make sure you check our guide for how to enable cross save and what it means for your Destiny 2 accounts.
