Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is now available on Nintendo Switch and includes a full roster of playable characters to choose from. As you work through the campaign, or play with other people online, you’ll undoubtedly find yourself wondering how to swap characters. Rather than puzzle this out without help, we thought it’d be a good idea to put together a brief guide on how to swap characters in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.

One thing we like about Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order is that you aren’t locked into a specific set of characters. If you want to change up your team, there are a few options available to you depending on what mode you’re in. If you’re working through the single-player campaign you’ll need to seek out a SHIELD symbol on the map.
Interact with this symbol to open various menu options. Choose “Hero Select” and you’ll be able to open your list of chosen characters. By selecting one of these characters, you’ll have the ability to swap them around for someone else. Alternatively, you can do this beforehand by opening the Hero Select menu from the Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 title screen.
Alternatively, you can swap characters in multiplayer using your d-pad and choosing other character options that are available and aren’t currently in use by other players. You can also do this at a SHIELD symbol in the map. For multiplayer, we recommend picking your favorite character and sticking with them as it’s easier than picking someone you’re unfamiliar with and having to take time to swap them back out.
The single-player campaign is the best place to freely swap characters as it's a bit more open in letting you explore how each character works in Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3.
