Super Mario Maker 2 has done incredibly well following its release on Nintendo Switch, leading gamers to ask whether a version of Super Mario Maker 2 exists for other platforms like Nintendo 3DS or Wii U. Other questions center around whether you need to purchase and play the first game, Super Mario Maker, before playing Super Mario Maker 2.
To help clear things up, we’ve put together a quick guide answering questions like whether there’s a version of Super Mario Maker 2 for Wii U.
Is There a Super Mario Maker 2 for Wii U?
The quick answer to the question of whether there’s a version of Super Mario Maker 2 for Wii U is no, there’s not. The Wii U is dead.
Super Mario Maker 2 is exclusive to the Nintendo Switch with no plans to release on any other platform outside of the Nintendo Switch. If you’re looking for a way to enjoy Mario Maker gameplay, the original Super Mario Maker released back in 2015 was (and still is) available for the Wii U. Additionally, the original Super Mario Maker is also available for Nintendo 3DS.
While there are more options available in Super Mario Maker 2 from level design to modes, the original Super Mario Maker is still a fantastic game that’s well worth checking out on older platforms like 3DS and even the Wii U if you own one. For more information, check out the Super Mario Maker for Wii U page on the Nintendo eShop, or the Super Mario Maker for 3DS page depending on where you want to purchase and play the game.
Again, if you want to enjoy the sequel to Super Mario Maker, Super Mario Maker 2, you’ll need to purchase and play it on the Nintendo Switch.
