Any time you try to dismantle an item by speaking to Johannes, you’ll be told that you need a certain amount of Alkahest, and if you’re early in the game that’ll probably be more than you’ve even collected. For a required ingredient, it’s surprisingly unclear where you can obtain it, but these are the best methods we’ve found to get Alkahest in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

The first and quickest method to get Alkahest is by buying it from Dominique, the blond lady in a nun getup who waits in Arvantville to purchase your shards or sell you items. She’s found in the room opposite Johannes. Dominique will sell you Alkahest for 800 gold, and appears to have an unlimited supply. While this is easy, it’s also a very pricey way to obtain what you need, so unless you’re selling an awful lot of Shards, we recommend making most of your Alkahest out in the field.

The other method for obtaining Alkahest is to get it by killing demons. Alkahest typically drops from ethereal, ghost-like enemies, of which you likely won’t face that many early in the game. The best place to stock up your supplies is in the opening hallways of the castle. Once you’ve unlocked the ability to fast travel, you probably won’t have returned there, but as you make your way into the castle you’ll face several ghosts (along with plenty of bats and zombies). Alkahest isn’t a guaranteed drop, and they won’t drop much, but if you find a ghost that’s close to a doorway you can kill it, then walk through the door and back to kill it again. Repeat this process for a little while, making sure to pick up any items dropped and you should be able to get more Alkahest in your stores without too much work. Items like the Plunderer's ring or anything that increases your Luck will boost the rate you receive it.

Now that you know how to get Alkahest in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night you can start dismantling your old junk to craft new weapons and food recipes! Don’t forget that only certain weapons can be used to master Techniques, so you don’t want to dismantle those! Wondering what to craft?
