Like any good Metroidvania title, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night often tantalizes you with paths and items that lie just out of your reach until you obtain a later power. One of the biggest teases on this front are the underwater chests that are dotted around the sunken portions of the castle. Even when you first gain the option to swim underwater, you’ll find them frustratingly Unobtainable. Don’t worry, you will be able to reach underwater chests in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, but it probably won’t be for some time.
How to reach underwater chests in Bloodstained
The only way to reach underwater chests in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is by gaining the Deep Sinker Shard. This isn’t a Shard that’s held by any particular demon, instead you’ll need to progress to and through the Hidden Desert to find it. If you haven’t reached that yet, try not to think about any submerged chests for now as you’ve got some work ahead of you. If you don’t want and boss spoilers, we suggest you stop reading now.
To obtain the Deep Sinker Shard so that you can reach underwater chests, you first need to play through the Hidden Desert and defeat Alfred, the boss of the area. Once he’s defeated, leave the boss room via the door you entered and ride the elevator down one level. Make your way right here and you’ll find the Deep Sinker Shard waiting for you. By equipping this shard you can now return to the Forbidden Underwater Passage and sink down into the depths to reach the chests you need.
