One item than many players are after is the Unstable Tailspike, used to craft Radiant gear such as the Dawnstar Barrel. It’s not all that rare of a part, but you still need to know which pursuit you should be taking to earn it. If you’re not sure, this guide will help you learn how to get Unstable Tailspike in Dauntless.

You can get Unstable Tailspike as a common drop from the tail of the Valomyr Behemoth. If you haven’t met the Valomyr yet, check our list of all Behemoths in Dauntless and you’ll see that it’s a Radiant type with Threat Level 8. This is the first Radiant Behemoth you’ll encounter, and makes for a tough fight the first time. To be most effective, you need the elemental counter of Umbral weapons.

To get the Unstable Tailspike, you need to break the tail of the Valomyr. That’s no easy feat normally, but you also need to make sure you’re using the right weapon. Blunt weapons like the Hammer cannot sever tails, so we recommend using a weapon type with high part damage like the Sword or Chain Blades. If you have a full team of Slayers, you can always bring a hammer along to help stagger the Valomyr, but make sure everyone else is focusing their damage on the tail.

The Unstable Tailspike is a common drop, which means you should get it pretty much every time you break the tail of the Valomyr during the fight. You may sometimes get a rarer part instead, in which case you’ll just need to do the pursuit again. Want to see the Valomyr pursuit in action? Take a look at the video below by Dadefuye Media.
