Will Project Scarlett support the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2?

Find out if you can use the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 when Project Scarlett launches next year.

Last night Microsoft unveiled the new Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, the next edition in Microsoft’s high-end controllers for the Xbox One. At $179.99 USD it’s a pricey option, meaning many players will want to think long and hard over whether to pick it up. The evening also saw the news that Project Scarlett — the next generation of Xbox console — would be coming in Holiday 2020. Understandably, many viewers also want to know if the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 would support Project Scarlett, so let’s take a look.

The good news is that yes, The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 is Project Scarlett compatible. It wasn’t covered during the reveal footage last night, but thankfully Xbox product and marketing manager James Shields took to Twitter to reassure all potential buyers, saying: “Getting a lot of questions on this one: Yes, the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 will be compatible with Project Scarlett.”

Phew! Given the high price of the controller, it’s understandable that many were wondering if they’d be ditching it in just a year and a half when the next generation arrives. For $179.99 you’d expect a good degree of longevity from your purchase, and thankfully it looks like Microsoft has got you covered on that front.

Of course, it’s worth noting that we don’t yet know what the Project Scarlett base controller will be, so if you’re content with your current analogue sticks and buttons then you might want to stick with it until the new controllers are unveiled to see what’s included with the next generation. Still, it’s nice to know that if you do splash out, you’ll be sorted for a while yet.

That’s hopefully answered the question for you on if Project Scarlett will support the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2. Plenty more news came out of the Microsoft press conference though, including details of Project Scarlett, another look at Halo Infinite, and tons of new titles like Microsoft Flight Simulator.
