E3 2019 Rumors: What could be coming next week?

Here are the most credible rumors we expect to see confirmed in the coming week at E3 2019.

E3 is just around the corner, and even without Sony’s attendance it looks set to be a packed event. Unlike last year, we haven’t been inundated with leaks from every company (though a few surprise details have slipped through the cracks), leaving much of the excitement for the press conferences and show floor. That said, there’s been plenty of speculation and rumor as to what’s coming next week, so let’s take a look at the most credible E3 rumors for 2019:

E3 2019 Rumors: What could be coming next week?

Several rumors ahead of this year’s E3 conference have already been confirmed or had further leaks to support them, including the next Watch Dogs game and even details on a new Fable title. We’ve skipped over covering them here in favor of some more interesting but yet-to-be-revealed details.

Baldur’s Gate 3

Update - Confirmed! We didn't even have to wait until E3 for this one. As part of the Google Stadia press conference, Baldur's Gate 3 was officially revealed. Here's hoping we get to see more next week.

It’s been 19 years since the seminal Baldur’s Gate 2: Shadows of Amn hit PCs worldwide, and most of us had assumed the series was long lost to the annals of history. Following the bizarre news that Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 will be coming to Nintendo Switch, we’ve then had a potential tease for Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian Studios, developer of Divinity: Original Sin, has posted a teaser image to their website with the number three. Clever Twitter users have noted all signs point towards this being them taking up the mantle of the series in partnership with Wizards of the Coast. The reveal is actually expected ahead of E3, in this Thursday’s Google Stadia press conference, so keep your eyes peeled then.

George R. R. Martin and FromSoftware

If you’re not aware, George R. R. Martin is the writer of the A Song of Ice and Fire series on which the Game of Thrones TV show was based. We know that he’s been to Japan recently to consult on a videogame in development. Current rumors claim the game will be called Great Rune, and is being developed by FromSoftware, creators of Dark Souls, Bloodborne and, more recently, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. The idea of this collaboration is a very exciting one indeed, so we’re extremely hopeful that some more information will drop during E3.

Surprise Cadence of Hyrule release

Cadence of Hyrule was an unexpected delight from the last Nintendo Switch Nindies showcase. A spin-off Crypt of the Necrodancer title, it takes the cheery cartoon aesthetic to Hyrule, letting players take control of both Link and Zelda as they bob their way through its grid-based levels. Recently, dataminers spotted code for the game was added to the eShop, indicating a release was on the way soon. Currently the date looks set for June 20, but there’s also the chance that this was preparation from Nintendo to announce it as a surprise release during their E3 Nintendo Direct. Even if we don’t get access until June 20, that’s really not that long to wait for such a charming title.

Project Scarlett - The next Xbox?

Microsoft’s press conference already looks set to be one of the most exciting of E3. They’ve spent the last year gobbling up development studios while keeping their plans under wraps. It looks like a new Fable game is on the way, but we’re also waiting for further information on Halo infinite. Lurking behind that all of that is the potential reveal of a new Xbox console. Dubbed Project Scarlett, Microsoft’s next console or consoles are planned for a 2020 release according to Thurrott, so we fully expect to see something during their E3 press conference on Sunday.

THQ revives Destroy All Humans

E3 Leaks Rumors THQ Destroy All Humans

Earlier this year we pointed out that THQ Nordic is planning to reveal two new titles during E3, describing one as a “long-awaited return of a galactically beloved game/franchise” and the other as a “new vision of a beloved game/franchise.” We think it’s near certain that one of these titles will be a revival of the classic Destroy All Humans. THQ Nordic has been extremely busy, as it also seems likely they’ll announce Darksiders 4 during E3. We've got our fingers crossed that the other revamped title is TimeSplitters, but there's no guarantee there. We’re not sure when these reveals will happen, but it’ll be before the show starts as we’ll be going hands-on with THQ’s new titles at the show.

Those are all the big rumors we’ve run into in the run-up to E3, but we’re sure there are plenty more surprises waiting for us in the upcoming shows from the major players. Check out our E3 2019 press conference schedule to prepare yourself for everything that’s coming!
