As stated above, Rage 2 offers both auto-save and manual save options. To preserve your progress, we recommend learning how to use both to their fullest potential. Kicking things off, Rage 2 has an integrated auto-save feature that updates as you complete objectives and move between locations. For example, using fast travel to return to Gunbarrel will trigger an auto-save in Rage 2.

It’s good practice to complete any active missions before exiting out of Rage 2 in order to ensure your progress has auto-saved. For many players though, relying on auto-saves alone can cause unnecessary anxiety. Fortunately, Rage 2 also offers a manual save feature which can be used in conjunction with the game’s auto-save.

To manually save, you’ll want to press Options on PlayStation 4 or the Start button on Xbox One. Once in the Pause Menu, scroll down to the “Save Game” option. Here, you’ll be able to create a new save file, or overwrite your current save file and update it with any new progress made. Note that you can have multiple save files if you wish.

Once you’ve saved to a save file, all of your progress will be stored. In the Pause Menu, notes on saving may pop up with things like, “Your current progress will be saved. However, you will start at the nearest discovered location upon your next load.” All this means is that if you’re out in the wasteland, you will load into whatever location you discovered last rather than on a hill somewhere. If you were at Gunbarrel last, you’ll spawn outside of Gunbarrel, though all progress from your wasteland exploration including supplies scavenged will be saved.
