Find out whether you can play World War Z in single-player.

World War Z is a game that’s primarily designed to be played cooperatively with three other players. While multiplayer is the name of the game, there are ways to enjoy World War Z solo if you so desire. To explain what sort of solo options are available, we’ve put together a quick guide answering the question of whether there’s single-player in World War Z.

To start, yes there are single-player options available in World War Z. Rather than play with friends or random teammates online, you can opt to play solely with AI. While there’s no way to skirt around having teammates with you, it’s good to know you don’t need to add friends to your lobby or matchmake with players online.

To play with the AI, all you need to do is launch a campaign as normal, then choose to play offline. After that, your teammates will populate with AI and you can call all the shots as the AI simply follow along. Playing with AI isn’t always as efficient as playing with real-life gamers, as the AI can slip up and make mistakes that regular players would catch.

That said, you won’t have to worry about an AI dropping from a match, or being purposefully bad and useless. You also won’t have to worry about coordinating with other people as you’ll always be the one in charge when playing with AI. In the future, Saber Interactive may add more game modes and options for solo players. Until then, the only “single-player” option that’s available is offline mode with AI teammates.
