How to use Mercies in Mortal Kombat 11

Keep the fight rolling by learning how to use Mercies in Mortal Kombat 11.

You might think that Mortal Kombat 11 is all about beating up and killing your opponent in the most ludicrously violent manner possible. Well you’d be right, but sometimes it pays to take a softer approach. Oh who are we kidding, Mercies in Mortal Kombat 11 are just another way to embarrass your enemy. Mercies were first added back in MK3, as a way to set up the Animality joke finishers, but Mortal Kombat 11 brings them back for real. In this guide we’ll teach you how to use Mercies in Mortal Kombat 11.

You can use a Mercy in Mortal Kombat 11 after reducing your opponent’s lifebar to zeo and the FINISH HIM/HER message pops up. Instead of performing a Fatality, a Mercy will bring your opponent back to life with roughly 20% health, letting them attempt to win the fight again. This obviously a risky technique to perform as you could go on to lose the match, but that just makes it all the more tempting. Here’s how to use Mercies:

Mercy Input

  • Beat your opponent to zero health so the FINISH HIM/HER message pops up.
  • Stand half the screen’s distance away.
  • Hold Left Trigger (L2/LT).
  • Tap down four times.

You might notice that tapping down looks a bit like teabagging, which probably isn’t a coincidence all things considered. Once you’ve activated it, your opponent will be brought back into the round with around 20% of their max health, which could mean they’ll end up at higher health than you, so be careful! After you’ve performed a Mercy once, you won’t be able to use another, so don’t waste the chance to land a Fatality after you win again.

Currently there’s no real purpose for Mercies in Mortal Kombat 11 beyond messing with your enemy, but who knows, maybe NetherRealm will add Animalities to the game in a future update or as paid DLC. If they do, knowing how to use Mercies in advance will be very helpful indeed for showing off.
