Following its release on February 13, Nintendo Switch owners have poured hundreds upon hundreds of hours into Tetris 99. Touted as a “battle royale” game, Tetris 99 pits you against 98 other players in an exciting, fast-paced arena. Now, there’s even more incentive to marathon games of Tetris 99 thanks to the announcement of a brand new in-game event, the Maximus Cup.
Maximus Cup Announced for Tetris 99

The Maximus Cup is an upcoming event in Tetris 99 that’s scheduled to run from March 8 at 5:00 a.m. (PST) or 8:00 a.m. (EST), until March 10 at 11:59 p.m. (PST) or 2:59 a.m. (EST). During that time, 999 different Tetris 99 players have a chance to win 999 My Nintendo Points, valued at approximately $10.
My Nintendo Points can be used in a variety of different ways on the Nintendo eShop from purchasing new games, to snagging DLC add-ons for games you already own. To earn your place among these top 999 players, all you need to do is rack up as many first-place wins as you can. The more first-place wins you earn from March 8 until March 10, the higher you’ll rank.
Tetris 99 is free-to-play on Nintendo Switch, exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online members. If you’ve yet to purchase a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online, you can do so here. Subscriptions are priced at $4 (USD) per month, $8 (USD) for three months, and $20 (USD) for a full year.
