Pokémon GO holiday event launches tomorrow

Find out what you can expect from this year's holiday event in Pokémon GO.

The Winter Wonders holiday event will officially arrive in Pokémon GO tomorrow, December 18. The event will last two weeks and will include a variety of special encounters, including the return of Santa Hat Pikachu. Ice-type Pokémon like Delibird will spawn more frequently, and the odds of hatching Ice-type Pokémon from Eggs will increase.

Need an Incubator to hatch all of your Eggs? During the Winter Wonders event, you can grab one Incubator per day when you visit a nearby PokéStop. Of course, you’ll still need to walk around in order to hatch your Eggs. Considering how cold it is outdoors, you may want to load up Pokémon GO during your last-minute shopping trips.

We did this while walking around the local mall and were able to hatch two of our Eggs with ease. Depending on the day, you can also take advantage of special bonuses, like earning Double XP when you catch Pokémon. Wondering when these bonuses will be available? Below, we’ve listed the full schedule of bonuses in Pokémon GO during the Winter Wonders event!

  • December 18-22: Double Candy when you catch and transfer Pokémon.
  • December 22-26: Double Stardust when you catch Pokémon.
  • December 26-30: Double XP when you catch Pokémon.
  • December 30-January 2: Incubators hatch Eggs twice as fast.

Getting bored of catching the same Pokémon over and over again? Along with the Winter Wonders announcement, it was also confirmed that additional Pokémon from the Sinnoh region will arrive in Pokémon GO to kick off the New Year. Keep in mind that this is an update that’s permanent to the game, rather than exclusive to the Winter Holidays event.

As such, even if you’re uninterested in catching an adorable Santa Hat Pikachu, you’ll have the chance to expand your PokéDex with brand new Sinnoh Pokémon. The Winter Wonders event is set to run from December 18 until January 2. Based on the information above, what aspect of the event are you most looking forward to?
