In Fallout 76, you may find yourself wondering how to save the game. Because the act of saving isn’t immediately made clear in Fallout 76, it can be confusing to know for certain whether or not your progress has been saved. Right now, there’s no way to manually save in Fallout 76. Instead, Fallout 76 uses an autosave feature to track your progress.

The best way to utilize the autosave feature in Fallout 76 is to open your Map, open the Menu option, then select “Quit Game” from this Menu before exiting. If you quit the game any other way, you run the risk of your progress not saving where you’d like it to. To make extra certain everything has saved properly, you can Fast Travel to a town like Sutton before using the “Quit Game” option listed above.

When you open the game again after quitting, you should find your character where you left them last time. At times, they may be slightly outside the location where you left them, though your progress should be at the same spot. For example, we left our character inside Sutton after using the Fast Travel option from Morgantown.

When we came back online, we found them on the outskirts of Sutton, though the items we picked up and our new level after we leveled up had all been saved. What’s nice is that when you quit the game, your character doesn’t stand there in the world of Fallout 76 for other players to pester. Instead, they disappear from the game until you return.

To recap, Fallout 76 uses an autosave feature to track your progress. To ensure everything saves properly, be sure to use the “Quit Game” option in your Menu before logging off.
