Players unlock retro Game Boy skin in Tetris Effect

Good luck getting the theme song out of your head!

Tetris Effect is arguably one of the best modern adaptations of Tetris available. Not only does the game feature a perfect blend of moving music and addicting gameplay, it’s also ripe with surprises. One of the more recent examples of this is the discovery of a special “1989” skin that can be unlocked in the game.

As its name suggests, the skin pays loving tribute to the Game Boy version of Tetris released that year. Along with a retro green aesthetic, the skin also includes the classic Tetris theme. As reported by sites like Eurogamer, the “1989” skin first unlocked for players who completed last weekend’s “Weekly Ritual” event.

For those unfamiliar, the Weekly Ritual events are available every weekend in the game’s Effects Mode section. By playing select modes in conjunction with the rest of the Tetris Effect community, you have the chance to unlock special items in the game. Among these items are avatars, music, and as of last weekend, the “1989” skin.

If you were unable to participate in the Weekly Ritual last weekend, there is a spot of good news in that the skin can also be acquired by reaching Level 50 in Tetris Effect. What do you think of the “1989” skin in Tetris Effect? Were you able to unlock it, and if so, are you loving the nostalgia of it? Let us know down in the comments below!
