As stated above, you have the ability to Fast Travel in Red Dead Redemption 2 by either purchasing Train Tickets or paying for a ride on a Stagecoach. However, there’s a third Fast Travel option you can unlock that is completely free to use (well, after you pay to unlock the necessary upgrades for it). At your base camp with the Van der Linde gang, you have the option to pay for camp upgrades.

By paying for two key camp upgrades, you’ll be able to unlock the free Fast Travel option in Red Dead Redemption 2. Of course, this isn’t immediately clear, and many players have been surprised to discover the functionality after unlocking it. To unlock the free Fast Travel option in Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll first need to unlock the camp’s Ledger.

This can be done by completing the first mission with Strauss in Chapter 2 of Red Dead Redemption 2. Using the Ledger, you’ll be able to purchase various camp upgrades ranging from the relatively inexpensive to suspiciously pricey. On the pricier side of things is an upgrade to Arthur’s Tent which sets you back $325. If you’re wondering whether or not a simple tent upgrade for Arthur is worth it… it is.

In your camp Ledger, locate the Lodgings Upgrades and purchase an upgrade for Dutch’s Tent ($220) and an upgrade for Arthur’s Tent ($325). With both of these upgrades purchased, you’ll unlock the free Fast Travel option in Red Dead Redemption 2. You may be thinking that spending $545 dollars on camp upgrades isn’t exactly a “free” Fast Travel option.

However, it really does pay for itself in the long run as you’ll be able to quickly travel to multiple different locations without ever having to spend money on either Train Tickets or the Stagecoach. To use the free Fast Travel option, simply head over to Arthur’s Tent and on the side you’ll be able to travel to different locations in Red Dead Redemption 2 for free (as you discover them, of course). Below, we’ve listed the locations where you can Fast Travel to for free using Arthur’s Tent:

  • Valentine
  • Emerald Ranch
  • Blackwater
  • Strawberry
  • Saint Denis
  • Van Horn Trading
  • Annesburg
  • Rhodes
  • Lagras
Another way to Fast Travel for free in Red Dead Redemption 2 is to place a Waypoint, then activate Cinematic Mode.

As some players may point out, you can also Fast Travel using the Cinematic Camera mode in Red Dead Redemption 2. While this option is only good for short distances while on horseback, it can be useful if you’re heading out to collect a Wanted Bounty. To use the Cinematic Camera mode to Fast Travel, you’ll first need to open up your map and place a Waypoint where you want to go.

Using the Wanted Bounty example, you can open your map, find the location of the Wanted Bounty, and place a Waypoint on top. After that, head in the direction of your Waypoint, then hold the gallop button on your controller. Tap the gallop option to reach full speed, then release the button. Finally, turn on your Cinematic Camera mode while galloping towards your Waypoint.

In doing so, you’ll continue towards your destination automatically. While Red Dead Redemption 2 may be huge in scale, there are several options available that make it easy to get from Point A to Point B and back again.
