There are plenty of fun old-timey weapons for Arthur Morgan to play with in Red Dead Redemption 2, but many players have been wondering where they can get their hands on the undeniably satisfying pump-action shotgun in particular. It’s available for free early on in the game and offers a big boost of damage that’ll prove very handy indeed. Unfortunately, the location of it is somewhat confusing, so in this guide we’ll teach you step by step where to find the pump-action shotgun in Red Dead Redemption 2.

Where to find the pump-action shotgun in Red Dead Redemption 2
First up, if you preordered the Special or Ultimate editions of the game, you’ll already have access to the pump-action shotgun from the local gunsmith at the start of the game. You can pick it up for free, so head on over there and save yourself a lot of trouble.
Those with the standard edition of the game or who didn’t preorder can still obtain the weapon, but you’ll first need to put in a bit of work. The weapon is located in a lockbox in Chez Porter, but you won’t be able to find it there if you haven’t already completed the The First Shall Be Last quest for Javier. It’s easy to wander off from the less interesting main storyline early in Red Dead Redemption 2, but it’s well worth playing this far to net yourself a powerful weapon. Complete this mission for the area, then head towards Chez Porter.
To reach the spot, you simply need to head due north from Valentine. Cross the Dakota River and you’ll find Chez Porter northwest of Window Rock on your map. It’s not a huge marker, but it will come up as a named location. Be careful though, as there are plenty of enemies here. You’ll need plenty of ammo, but as long as you come prepared and make use of cover, you should be able to take out all of the enemies here.
With the camp cleared, enter the larger southeast cabin and head upstairs to the back left room. The box with the shotgun will be up a ladder in the back of the room, nice and easy. If the weapon isn’t appearing for you, double check that you’ve completed the The First Shall Be Last mission, then reload the area. It’s free, powerful and available early on, making it well worth the effort in tracking down. If you’re really struggling, you’ll also eventually unlock the option to buy the pump-action shotgun after you progress far enough through Chapter 2 of the main story.
Earning such a powerful weapon this early will likely leave you pumped to complete some more of the game, so take a look at our other Red Dead Redemption 2 guides.
