The fate of Telltale's Walking Dead game has been decided. Robert Kirkman, the writer who created the original Walking Dead comic book, has stepped in to pick up the project and will see the final season through to completion via his own Skybound Games studio.

As fans will be aware, Telltale Games fired almost all of its staff at the end of September, leaving many talented artists, writers and coders out of work with no warning, and a slate of ongoing game projects in limbo.
"Just stay tuned," Kirkman said at New York Comic Con at the weekend. "Everybody involved is trying to make sure Clementine's story is told. It's a very unfortunate situation, but hopefully we will come out of it in some kind of positive way. I am not concerned at the moment with having to tell the story in comic book form because I'm hoping that the games will eventually be completed."
Various other statements made to the media help to fill in some blanks. IGN received a statement saying that "Skybound will work with members of the original Telltale team to finish the story in a way the fans deserve" but Variety reports that "nothing has been finalized" on that front.
If nothing else, having Kirkman step in to finish off Clementine's story would be an appropriate conclusion to a sad and messy situation. Watch this space.
