If you’ve spent any amount of time in Destiny 2’s PvP recently, you’ll know that Shotguns are pretty darn popular. While there are plenty to choose from, the single-slug Chaperone Exotic is easily one of the best you can arm yourself with.
The Precision Slug primary perk for the Chaperone fires a single round which dishes out hefty precision damage, and any kills with it will trigger the secondary Roadborn perk. This grants increased range, handling and precision damage for every precision kill you make.
Thanks to the Forsaken expansion, this mighty weapon has finally made the jump over from the original Destiny, and it’s still a force to be reckoned with in the Crucible. Here’s how to get the Chaperone Exotic Shotgun in Destiny 2.
How to get the Chaperone Exotic Shotgun
Unlike many exotics, the way to earn the Chaperone isn’t through grinding PvE missions. Instead, you need to complete the Holliday Family History quest. Sadly, this isn’t a quest you can start at any time, instead you’ll need to hope it gets dropped at the end of a Crucible match. You can’t choose to receive it or increase your chances of receiving it, so you’ll simple have to play in the Crucible until you’re given the mission.
Once you’ve got the Holliday Family History quest, you’ll need to go an speak to the Tower’s own walking and talking Holliday herself. That is to say, you should talk to Amanda Holliday in the Hangar once you have the quest. The mission itself is simply a few different PvP challenges to complete back in the Crucible. Here’s what you need to do:
- Kill 20 opponents with shotguns in the Crucible
- Kill enemies with each Elemental damage type (Arc, Solar and Void) in the crucible - dying reduces your total
- Kill 15 opponents in Gambit
Earning 20 shotgun kills and 15 kills in Gambit is simple enough, but the elemental kills challenge may prove more difficult. Each kill earned using Arc, Solar and Void will grant 4% progress towards the task total for that element, but each death will set you back 2%. What this means is that you’ll need to earn a positive kill/death ratio, or at least try to go even, earning at least one elemental kill for each death you suffer.
You need to earn kills with every element type, so we recommend focussing on one at a time. The best way to do this is to load up with a full set of equipment and subclass for that element (e.g. a Void weapon with a Void subclass) as this ensures you get progress for every single kill you make. Once that element has reached 100% progress it won’t reduce again for each death, meaning you no longer need to worry about it and can swap to the next element.
After you’ve completed all three tasks you’ll be given one final mission step: return to Amanda Holliday. All you need to do is head back to the Hangar and speak to her to receive your welcome reward of the Chaperone Exotic Shotgun.
