Devil May Cry 5 gets official release date, new gameplay details

A release date was unveiled for Devil May Cry 5 alongside new gameplay footage at Gamescom 2018.

At Gamescom 2018, the official release date for Devil May Cry was revealed. According to Capcom, Devil May Cry 5 will release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC as of March 8, 2019. Along with the release date, a gameplay trailer dropped which highlights exciting new features and character abilities.

Among these character abilities are “Devil Breakers” for Nero, which manifest as a pair of mechanical arms. There are a total of eight Devil Breakers in Devil May Cry 5, each with their own unique element and playstyle. For example, there’s Overture which uses electricity, and Gerbera which uses heat.

The Devil Breakers feel reminiscent of Nero’s “Devil Bringer” from Devil May Cry 4, although Devil Bringer was relegated to a single arm and a limited set of skills such as strength and absorption. Of course, fans of Devil May Cry 4 will nevertheless appreciate the fact that Devil Breakers share Devil Bringer’s ability to grab enemies and grapple between ledges.

Furthermore, Nero will make use of the same weapons featured in Devil May Cry 4 including his Blue Rose handgun and Red Queen sword. To set Devil May Cry 5 apart from Devil May Cry 4, the gameplay trailer featured an appearance from an older, weathered looking Dante riding on the back of his new motorcycle.

Dante’s motorcycle will reportedly act as both a weapon and mode of transportation, which will certainly make for interesting combat in Devil May Cry 5. It’s hard to tell from the trailer what the actual story will consist of. Right now, it stands to reason that Devil May Cry 5 will expand upon some of the plot elements featured in Devil May Cry 4. Especially given the fact that Nero is returning with old, and new, abilities in tow.

For more information, be sure to check out the gameplay trailer that dropped at this year’s Gamescom. Devil May Cry 5 will release on March 8, 2019 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Windows PC. What do you think of the new trailer shown at Gamescom? Are you excited for an older Dante, or are you looking forward to trying out Nero’s new Devil Breakers?
