In Destiny 2, players have been having trouble earning Close Range Kills, with no clear word on what counts as a Close Range Kill. On Bungie’s forum as well as on the Destiny 2 subreddit, players have shared their experiences with what awarded them a Close Range Kill and what did not. There are a few noticeable trends when it comes to what counts as a Close Range Kill and what doesn’t.
To help, we put together a quick guide on the best ways to get Close Range Kills in Destiny 2.
How to Get Close Range Kills in Destiny 2
In Destiny 2, one of the available bounties requires players to earn “Close Range Kills.” Of course, it’s not clearly specified how to go about getting these Close Range Kills. Destiny 2 players have tried a variety of tactics with mostly poor results. Although, there have been a few methods that seem to work for multiple players. According to Reddit user dougcpa:
“People using swords have been posting that every kill is counting. So it seems like swords may be the less painful way to go get this one done.”
Other Redditors have echoed the sword method, stating they were also able to rack up Close Range Kills with swords. Additionally, Redditors have noted that melee doesn’t appear to count towards Close Range Kill progression. For those having trouble with swords, another method to try according to Redditor Red_Dog_6436 is:
“Apparently you need to use a regular non-shotgun weapon, zoomed in/scoped, and be at close range. I got mine done with hand cannons and a scout rifle of all things. The text for the bounty mentioning ‘need a good scope’ ended up cluing me in.”
In the past, other Redditors have posted to the subreddit seeking help with their Close Range Kills not counting towards progress. Meaning they were able to earn these Close Range Kills, but the tally wasn’t recording properly. In an update from Redditor yoursweetlord70: “No scoping with an SMG at close range seemed to work much better. For anyone looking at this post, do that.”
In response to yoursweetlord70, Redditor SpecialSause provided another helpful tip: “FYI: the “Complete a Heroic Strike” bounty will not complete if you use a Vanguard Boon.”
To quickly recap, it seems one of the best ways to get Close Range Kills and complete the bounty in Destiny 2 is to either use swords, or use a weapon like an SMG that’s scoped at close range. Shotguns don’t seem to work, and melee also doesn’t seem to work. By experimenting with the methods suggested above, you should be able to find a way to get Close Range Kills in Destiny 2.
